Here at Hair&Me, we’re firm believers that you should be able to rock any damn haircut you want! However, it’s also no lie that there are definitely some haircuts that suit certain face shapes better than others.
It’s super easy to determine what your face shape actually is... Just take a look in the mirror! Here are some guiding pointers that might help you through if you’re a little unsure…
- Oval face: Forehead will be slightly wider than the chin, and the length of your face will be about one and a half times the width.
- Round face: Beautifully prominent rounded cheeks, with the width and length of your face being equal length.
- Square face: A prominent jaw and squarish chin, with your forehead and jawline being roughly the same length.
- Heart-shaped face: You’ll have a wider forehead and cheekbones, with a narrow jawline and chin.
So, if you’re wanting to break away from your usual trim and try something new, or you just want to be super informed next time you go to the hairdressers, have a read of our guide to the best haircut styles for each face shape.
If you’ve got a roundish face…
For those with round faces, haircuts that sit below the chin with layers to add definition can look amazing. Stay away from blunt cuts or cuts that are all one length, as if you’re lacking a really defined jawline, it won’t look flattering. The goal is to elongate the face, so added textured layers and always making sure your hair is voluminous can really make a massive difference.
If you’ve got a squarish face…
If you’ve identified your face as square, you probably have a really beautiful, strong angular jaw. This defining feature is obviously stunning, however when paired with a harsh or blunt haircut, it can look a little exacerbated or extreme. Play down your jaw with long, textured cuts that have layers to flatter and elongate your face. Also try to avoid scraping your hair back when doing ponytails or buns, and instead opt for strategic pieces left out of your hair tie to frame your face.
If you’ve got an oval or heart-shaped face…
These are pretty much known as the most versatile of the face shapes when it comes to hairstyles, so feel free to give anything a go! You might want to consider adding definition and segmentation to your face, so trying a sweeping side fringe or straight bangs could be a good option. Oval faces are also known to look AMAZING with short hairstyles like pixie cuts, so if you’re feeling up to it, why not go for a big change? Otherwise, cuts like ‘lobs’ can look fantastic, as they complement this face shape perfectly.
The most important factor… the health of your hair!
No matter what your face shape is or what hairstyle you decide to go with, the truth is that healthy, shiny, moisturised hair NEVER goes out of fashion. Hair&Me have the key to this with our range of shampoos and conditioners, hair treatments and hair tools.
